FTA-ABS

The FTA (Fluorescent Treponemal Antibody) Test is a confirmatory syphilis test performed after an initial positive screening result. This blood test detects antibodies to the bacterium that causes syphilis, providing reliable confirmation for accurate diagnosis.

Syphilis progresses in stages:

Primary stage: Characterized by painless sores (chancres) at the infection site.

Secondary stage: Includes skin rashes, mucous membrane lesions, fever, and flu-like symptoms.                            

Latent stage: A dormant period without visible symptoms.

Tertiary stage: May cause severe organ damage, potentially leading to neurosyphilis and life-threatening complications.

Regular STD testing, including the FTA-ABS test, is crucial for early detection and treatment. Timely medical care helps prevent serious complications and stops further transmission.
