Glycated hemoglobin is hemoglobin with glucose attached and occurs in amounts proportional to the concentration of blood glucose over the preceding two to three months. Red blood cells are freely permeable to glucose, and once formed glycated hemoglobin remains stable for the life of the red blood cell.
